SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL PROVISION

Any child who has a Special Educational Need (whether a learning difficulty, emotional, behavioural or medical need) is provided with support according to the Code of Practice, in order to have access to the National Curriculum. For most of these children this would be provided for within the school’s budget allocation.

Every class teacher works to identify and to meet the learning needs of every child in his/her class.

Children with Special Educational Needs go through a staged assessment process. This may result in a formal assessment which, in turn, may lead to a statement of the child’s learning needs. This statement will outline the special educational needs and will state the extra support or resources to which the child will be entitled. Classroom Assistants support and work with children with special needs. The Classroom Assistant and teacher work together to plan and to deliver individual programmes of work.

The School has an Educational Psychologist who visits to assess and review the educational needs of particular children and who assists in the planning for future provision. The Deputy Head, Ms. Mitchell, is the S.E.N. Co-ordinator. She maintains the S.E.N. Register, and she monitors the provision for children with S.E.N. Along with the class teacher Ms. Mitchell works closely with parents who have a child with S.E.N. to ensure that they are fully informed. Ms. Mitchell liases with relevant agencies and organises reviews.
